Ask Bobby Ross why he’s coming back to FC Buffalo for a second season and you’ll get a pretty solid reply.

“The overall experience of last year was all I hoped for,” said Ross. “Just great players, coaches, owners and of course the fans. I wouldn’t take anything back from last year and I’m ready to begin another season with the Wolves and bring a trophy back to the City of Buffalo.”

Ross (Grand Island, N.Y. // The College at Brockport) was voted Best Defensive Player and Unsung Hero, the latter along with Brian Knapp, in the 2013 team awards. And late last week he committed to play another year for head coach Brendan Murphy.

“I am ecstatic to have Bobby Ross back on the team this year,” Murphy said. “I feel a sense of calm already knowing that he will be patrolling our back line again. Bobby is a hard-nosed, workhorse of a player with incredible athleticism and will to win. His leadership will be a key factor for us in 2014.”

Murphy pointed to Ross’ development in the Black Watch NY West Premier program as a vital cog in the machine that has helped Ross become an elite defender at Brockport and beyond. As a senior captain, Ross scored six goals and six assists to lead Brockport to an 11-2-5 record, finishing his college career with 71 games played, 69 starts, 18 goals and 10 assists.

He returns to build on a defense that allowed the least goals per game in club history.

“Bobby is the sort of player we want at every turn,” said FCB general manager Nick Mendola. “He’s an incredibly-talented player who sets a strong example and raises the game of his teammates. Bobby is team-first and the very idea of the attitude Buffalo needs in its soccer players.”

Ross makes it an even 11 players committed for 2014, and you can read about the other players here, here and here.
