FCB to again raise money for Heritage Centers

FC Buffalo will again be putting a team in the annual Heritage Centers 5K, and we’re looking for you to join us or donate to our cause for the May 10 race (JOIN OUR TEAM TODAY).

We’re proud to announce that we are again an official community sponsor of this wonderful organization who provides “comprehensive and quality programming for people with developmental disabilities.” We’re also happy to say we’ll be unveiling some unique incentives as the weeks go on for those joining in the fun.

“We’re pleased to again be able to give our time and energy to raising awareness and money for an incredibly solid organization,” said FC Buffalo co-owner Joshua Batten. “While it’s our players who actually run well, we’re proud to give our best for Heritage Centers.”

In 2013, Team FC Buffalo raised over $1000 while defender Mitchell Skrabacz (West Seneca, N.Y. // St. Bonaventure University) finished second overall in the race. This year, the race takes place six days before our NPSL season opener against the Erie Admirals.

The 14th Annual Heritage Centers Foundation 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2014. The race will start at the Heritage Centers building at 101 Oak Street in Downtown Buffalo. It’s a scenic waterfront 5K route, with an amazing after-party featuring BW’s BBQ and Buffalo’s own Flying Bison beer on tap! Every year there are over 100 incredible raffle baskets.

We’d love it if you’d join our FC Buffalo Team for this race (you can by clicking this link and signing up). Our staff will be involved in this event, plus the post-party is pretty legendary.

“To register, go to www.hcf5krun.kintera.org and sign up to walk / run or to simply donate,” Batten said. “Click register now. Select to sign up for an existing team, select FC Buffalo and proceed to feel good about yourself cause you just made a difference in your city.”

More about Heritage Centers…

Heritage Centers was founded in 1951 by five families seeking to find education, recreation and support for their vulnerable children with special needs. That small family-led group eventually grew into the Erie County Chapter of the New York State Association for Retarded Children (NYSARC, Inc.), now known as Heritage Centers. For over 62 years, Heritage Centers has remained family-centered in their approach to finding comprehensive and quality programming for people with developmental disabilities

The Heritage Centers Foundation serves as an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities by securing community support on behalf of the children and adults served through Heritage Centers. The Foundation believes that every individual deserves to live an enriched and meaningful life. It provides resources for essential “quality of life” programming, which are not otherwise publicly funded.

The Heritage Centers Foundation has three major events each year; a 5K run/walk, a premier golf tournament, and a food and wine pairing event.
