Blitzers to begin quest for US Open Cup on May 7 in Brooklyn

Seattle Sounders captain (18) Kasey Keller raises the trophy after the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. The Seattle Sounders defeated DC United, 2-1.

The 98th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup could very well feature FC Buffalo if the club can win two qualifying match-ups in May.

The National Premier Soccer League receives four automatic bids to the tourney, which also features Major League Soccer and United Soccer League teams.

The Blitzers will have to win two road matches to get into the mix. First, FC Buffalo will take on the Brooklyn Italians at John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Saturday, May 7 at 5 p.m. EST.

The winner of that match travels to Keystone Conference champion FC Sonic in Lehigh Valley on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. EST.

Should FC Buffalo win both those games, they’ll enter the formal first round of the 2011 US Open Cup.
