Reidy To The Rescue

After a shorthanded 3-0 loss in Detroit late Saturday sent the Blitzers to their first three-game losing streak in club history, FC Buffalo desperately needed home points against Greater Binghamton FC on Sunday.

They only got one, but my was it wonderful.

Trailing 1-0 in the 53rd minute, FC Buffalo winger Mike Reidy swooped in front of a GBFC pass inside of FCB territory. He then made a dash toward the right sideline before reversing his field, leaving multiple defenders in his wake.  His ball work moved him through two more players before a final nutmeg of a defender and a finishing blast to even the score.

The Blitzers carried the play with Kendell McFayden attempting 10 shots to no avail and final third subs Collin Lynch and Nekabari Tor provided several brilliant moments that stopped short of a goal. Chris Walter proved strong for the second-straight night, while Andy Tiedt, John Grabowski, Ryan Walter, Josh Hall and Eric Dehond played the bulk of minutes in both games.

The Blitzers play Friday night in Erie with valuable points on the line against the rivals who’ve dominated them in the past.

FC Buffalo’s final home game is June 30 against Detroit City FC. It’s a 7 p.m. Saturday affair.

If soccer is to grow in this area, we need to work on putting together a better side and promotions.  Third year of this incarnation and the W’s are few and far between, and the only crowd of any measure was the friendly vs. the Terriers.  Maybe if people other than the crowd at Mes Que knew we had a team, they’d come.  Also, after 6 years in NPSL, maybe time a change to a real league. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
