MATCH REPORT: Season Buried By Erie In Playoffs

FC Buffalo gave its biggest rivals a sizeable lead for the second consecutive game and there would be no thrilling comeback as the No. 3 seed Erie Admirals clubbed No. 2 seed FCB, 5-2, in the Blitzers’ first ever playoff contest. Ian Mort scored both goals for the Buffalo side.

BOX SCORE

The first Erie strike came in the 16th minute when an advantageous onside play gave Erie a 2-on-1. Shane Howard tapped Billy Colton’s pass in and the No. 3 seed went up, 1-0.

Erie’s second goal came on a bizarre play. After FCB keeper Andrew Coughlin (Baldwinsville, N.Y. // Syracuse University) got tangled up with an Admirals player while clearing a ball, Howard send an easy ball into the back of the net as Coughlin tried to get free from his attacked. It was 2-0 after 41 minutes of play and stayed that way into halftime.

Ian Mort (Rochester, N.Y. // SUNY Geneseo) halved the deficit in the 57th minute when he put his own rebound off Erie GK Danny Mudd, but Erie took their 2-goal lead back when Daniel Deakin scored off a free kick just outside the 18 as the clock struck 70.

Twenty minutes remained but it was Erie who would strike next, beating the offside trap. It was Colton from Howard. Karl Jones entered the game in the 83rd minute and finished a chance within 60 seconds. The lead was 5-1.

Mort struck again in the 90th minute with a beautiful curling shot from just inside the 18, but it was too little, too late. The final would be 5-2. Erie advances to the Great Lakes Conference Final to play No. 1 seed Detroit City FC at 3 p.m.

you my friend are an idiot. your comments sound like a classic newcomer to the sport. generalized and show that you lack any real knowledge of the sport. play chess and figure out the strategy? christ you’re talking about a team that won more games than ever in club history. made playoffs for the first time in club history and beat Erie for the first time ever. Classic Buffalo fan. The fact that you feel the need to leave such a long comment of nonsense and think that it would do anything but give people something to laugh at is beyond me. I hope the players go listen to your ‘internet radio’ then tell you how its not good enough on all levels. and suggest you listen to spotify and podcasts to really learn how to do it right. fuck off.
