Luis Felipe Santos and Pedro Salmon scored second-half goals as FC Buffalo started the USL League Two season with a 2-0 win over Erie SCFC at Coyer Field on Sunday.
The win marks consecutive clean sheets for FCB, this one aided by two spectacular first-half saves from Jack Root, and sends coach Carl Kennedy to 1-0 in his USL career.,
Root, the 21-year-old Buffalo native, was named Intense Milk‘s Intense Player of the Game for his efforts.
Santos scored for the second-straight game, as the Mercyhurst man took a cut back from Ignacio “Nacho” Jansen and slotted to the near post of Erie’s keeper in the 66th minute.
Matheus Spina (Niagara University) came off the bench to start his third USL season with a bang, setting up Salmon’s late deflected strike to secure the win.
The men head to the road for three-straight matches including Wednesday night’s trip to Founders Field in Pittsburgh. They’ll face Steel City for the first time in a new league at 7pm. Stream the game through Steel City’s SportsEngine Play channel here.
The men’s next home game is June 7 vs Toledo Villa, but the women are home in USL W League action tonight — Monday, May 19 — versus Flower City 1872.
