FC Buffalo’s energetic first half ran out of gas in a 4-1 preseason friendly loss to FC St. Pauli II in Hamburg, Germany, on Wednesday.

NEXT HOME GAME: FCB v. FC St. Pauli!

FCSP U-23 is managed by Joachim Philipkowski, a former FCSP first team player and manager himself.

A surprisingly even first half saw FCB and FCSP trading turns on the front foot. Schutt’s first shot was blocked by Rob Williamson, but the rebound fell to him and the youngster buried his second chance in the 19th minute.

The Wolves came close to equalizing with a fine attack up the left, but a clinical counterattack from the Boys in Brown had it 2-0 in the 29th.

But hold on.

A Luca Ziegler corner kick was nodded into the mixer by Johnny McBeth, and Niklas Breunung won a scrum to get the ball to Walsh. The St. Joe’s alum buried his chance to make it 2-1 in the 33rd.

The coaching staff rang in several changes at halftime, and Gary Boughton, Will Warren, and Kendell McFayden all had beautiful chances to give FCB a second goal.

FCB has two more matches on its German docket: Thursday in Herne against DSC Wanne-Eickel, and a Friday match against a Dortmund XI including some memorable names.
