I can tell you that the Kentucky Derby is right around the corner when my wife tells me that there is a truck coming with two yards of dirt for me to put in our garden. It is a rite of Spring, a benchmark, and after a long winter, a welcomed event.
That said, I am pleased to another Triple Crown handicapping post, with a nod to our fine partners at Batavia Downs Casino and Western Regional OTB (Make your bets for Derby Day there, as you can have barbecue chicken and hang out with Buffalo Bills legend Thurman Thomas).
Last year, I got together with three additional Siminskis to see who holds the most skill in picking horses. My cousin Marty came out on top, and despite the huffing and puffing from the rest of us, his win was deserved. This year, we wanted to open it up to everyone. Let’s enjoy the Sport of Kings together, shall we?
Send us a Derby pick to ray@fcbuffalo.org no later than post time on that race day and we’ll see if anyone nails the winner. Perhaps we’ll give you fist bumps, hand slaps and other FC Buffalo tomfoolery come Friday’s home opener.
We’ll do this for the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, which must be received by post time of their respective races. You do not need to pick all three races at once. Hey, if you get all three, we’ll find some slick apparel for you in our merch stand (dang it! We didn’t order the patterned derby hats!).
