Phillips named captain of NPSL All-Stars

The honors continue to roll in for FC Buffalo defender Corey Phillips. The 6’4″ center back was named captain of the National Premier Soccer League All-Stars ahead of their three tilts this week.

“I’m honored to be named captain. It’s great for me and for FC Buffalo,” Phillips said, adding that it’s humbling to be selected with the extreme amount of talent on the roster, including conference nemesis Carlington Lamont of FC Reading Revolution and Cody Antonini of FC Sonic Lehigh Valley.

Phillips will skipper the talented team Friday versus NPSL Southeast team Rocket City United before they take on the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL as well as the U-20 national champions, Carolina Railhawks.

“It’s been going well,” Phillips said of the training and combine in Madison, Ala., site of the 2011 NPSL Championships. “Extremely hot, but good guys and a great coach. It’s a great opportunity, too. I’m just going to go out and play my game and hopefully I’ll get noticed.”
