The USL2 Playoffs are on many minds but FC Buffalo had a tough task Saturday as 18 players hit the pitch in a 3-2 loss to Akron City at Coyer Field in Buffalo.
Shawn Richardson set up goals for Ali Alomari and Lucas Soares as club records fell but the Wolves saw 1-0 and 2-1 leads disappear by the final whistle.
FCB finishes with a 7W-3D-2L record for the second-straight year, finishing second in the Great Forest Division. That is, however, enough to secure a wild card berth in the USL2 Playoffs, which begin Friday.
The 24 points earned ties the most in a single season for the club, set in 2013 under Brendan Murphy and matched by current coach Carl Kennedy last season and in the current one.
We also saw more family history as Jadyn Beshaw made his FC Buffalo debut on Saturday, joining older brother Josh as the latest group of siblings to put on the blue and gold.
Single-season marks were threatened by several players — and we’ll get to those — but the club saw several players climb the career record marks.
- Ali Alomari now has 19 goals for FCB across one full season and two shorter stints to sit behind only Ander Castillo’s 26 on the goal list.
- Lucas Soares’ six assists tie him with Mike Unwin, Andy Tiedt, and Russell Cicerone for second all-time behind Chris Walter’s nine
- Ashton Jell is now onto 48 appearances, behind only Walter, while Matheus Spina‘s 35 games played are fifth all-time.
- Goalkeeper Jack Root is now one clean sheet behind Bryce Tramuta‘s club record (9) and his 12 wins are tied with his former teammate Tramuta atop the list.
