Comeback kids climb out of another Indiana hole

Two goals in two minutes lifted FC Buffalo to its second big comeback of the weekend in Indiana, as Rob Brandell and Fox Slotemaker scored second-half goals in a 2-2 draw at Indiana Fire on Sunday.

The Wolves then had to hold on through their second red card of the season, as Slotemaker picked up a second yellow card in the 78th minute. He’ll miss Sunday’s Erie County Derby match at Robert E. Rich All-High Stadium (1 p.m.).

On an unseasonably cool day in Indianapolis, FC Buffalo got off to another cold start.

First, old nemesis Nago Mbengue danced through the FCB box to beat goalkeeper Cameron Hogg with a 23rd minute shot.

Thirteen minutes later, a penalty kick was awarded to Indiana after a post-shot foul near the FCB end line, and Bennett Kim converted a perfect attempt for the Fire.

Both Buffalo goals came off Andrew Ferguson set pieces, as the Niagara University playmaker sent in a free kick that Slotemaker headed home from the back post in the 48th minute. Then Ferguson’s corner kick was nodded in for an equalizer by Brandell in the 50th minute, also at the back post.
