Moving up the start time of Sunday’s season finale may have been all the karma FC Buffalo needed against a short-handed New Jersey Blaze.
Mike Unwin (University at Buffalo/Basingstoke, England) scored two goals in his final Buffalo bow — the new dad is moving back to Iowa with his wife and daughter– as the club’s all-time leading scorer finished his career with nine goals and 25 points. Young star defender Josh Faga (Marist/Rochester, N.Y.) picked up helpers on both of the tallies as the Blitzers won, 3-0.
All-Star fullback Corey Phillips (Medaille/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) split the game in a new spot — goalkeeper. Matt Stedman (Niagara University/Lockport, N.Y.) also spent 45 between the pipes in helping to engineer the clean sheet. FC Buffalo finished their season at 5-1-6 under new coach Dan Krzyzanowicz.
