Barberic named UWS MVP; Ford, Cutrona get national honors

United Women’s Soccer released its national awards for the 2023 season on Sunday, and FC Buffalo was well-represented amongst the major honors.

Marcy Barberic was named UWS MVP in addition to her spot on the All-UWS First Team, was club captain Carissima Cutrona was named to the All-UWS Second Team alongside imperious defender Tess Ford.

Marcy scored a league-best 12 goals and her six assists put her second in UWS. Carissima’s eight goals put her fifth in the league this season, and Ford’s incredible season at the back helped FCB allow just five goals as a part of a plus-38 goal differential.

The club was also honored with a third-place finish in Social Media Team of the Year, the top honors in Digital Gameday Experience Team of the Year, and a runner-up mention as Live Gameday Experience Team of the Year.

“While the end of the season was a blur, we’re very proud to see our incredible gameday staff and three of our players honored for their talents and hard work,” said FC Buffalo co-owner Nick Mendola.

“At the risk of leaving someone off the list, I’d like to especially thank our long-time game day crew including Liz Mantel, Ryan Schupp, Cullen Dedrick, Dan Puccio, Alex Beilman, John Kacz, Shane Murphy, David Arends, Julius Battle, and Trevor Butz for driving us forward, Marc and his crew at WNY Media for putting our stream out there with Jeff and Mike on the call, and Brett Ballachino for his great work making stunning visuals for social media.”

“Last but not anywhere near least, thank you to our supporters for making every place we go a home, through thick and thin, and drawing praise for Buffalo as a soccer city. We’re coming for even bigger honors next season.”
