A boisterous crowd saw FC Buffalo eliminate defending national champions AFC Cleveland from playoff contention with a 3-1 win on Friday at Robert Rich Sr. All-High Stadium.

Players rewrote the individual record book in the process, as a two-goal night from Kendell McFayden (Buffalo, N.Y. / Medaille College) and an assist from Chris Walter (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hartwick College) boosted them atop FCB’s all-time list.

Akean Shackleford (Savannah La Mar, Jamaica / Indian Hills CC) also scored for FCB, giving him seven goals for the second-best single season goal mark in FCB history, behind only Russell Cicerone’s 8-goal campaign in 2014.

McFayden now has 12 goals, two more than FCB mainstays Andy Tiedt and Mike Unwin, while Walter’s seventh assist ties him with Tiedt for the most in club history.

Austin Stout (Philadelphia, Penn. / Duquesne University) and Nick Szabo (Grand Island, N.Y. / Canisius College) also nabbed assists for the Blitzers.

The win closes out manager Frank Butcher’s season at 5W-4L-3T, though the Wolves finishes the season on a 4-1-1 run.
