Upstate NY Derby even after 1-1 road first leg

The first leg of the Upstate NY Derby finished up the same way many of FC Buffalo’s 2015 matches have ended: with two teams square after 90 minutes.

Brett Larocque (Bryant University // Ottawa, Ontario) scored his second goal as a Blitzer off a feed from Derek Maier (Canisius College // Clarence, N.Y.) to give FCB a 1-0 first-half lead over GBFC Thunder at Visions Field in Binghamton, N.Y.

But Bogdan Yatsishin beat Michael Shatkin midway through the second half to equalize for the NPSL’s Central N.Y. side, evening things up for the second leg in Buffalo on July 5 at Robert E. Rich Sr. All-High Stadium.

Center back Fox Slotemaker was declared FC Buffalo’s Rich Products’ Man of the Match for his 90 minutes of defense.

The Wolves now bring an almost entirely different squad to Rochester for Thursday morning’s Kid’s Day match against the USL’s Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium before resuming the NPSL schedule on Saturday at Michigan Stars.
