The challenges were plenty for FC Buffalo on Saturday and Sunday, as the men welcome a stung Toledo Villa to town before the women headed to Pittsburgh to face a massively-talented Pittsburgh Riveters in front of a large crowd at Highmark Stadium.
The results were mixed — the men would normally be fine to take four of six points from Toledo in a given USL League Two season, but Villa’s stoppage-time equalizer soured what would’ve kept FCB in the Great Forest Division’s catbird seat.
Carlos Vial Aedo scored in the 78th minute after Josh Head knocked down Pedro Salmon’s corner, but Villa made it 1-1 in the third of three minutes’ stoppage at Coyer Field in Buffalo.
The next day saw the women challenged with their trip to Pittsburgh. A long drive down into Pennsylvania was complicated by a weather delay, and then starting midfielder Eileen Solomon was injured within five minutes of kickoff.
The Riveters would be the only team to score in a 3-0 affair, leaving FCB to eye Wednesday long-awaited return home for a match with Cleveland Force. Kickoff is 6pm at Coyer Field on the campus of Buffalo State.
Bendix Bennetzen was named Intense Milk Player of the Game in the men’s draw, while Charlie Pawli collected the honors in the W League away loss.
