Ruck for Roman & raise funds for veterans with Parkinson’s

It’s likely if you’ve been around Western New York soccer for any period of time that you’ve run into the Figler family. Goalkeepers Justin and Jeremy played for FCB and their dad Roman has coached plenty a keeper as well. All of the ‘Figs’ have been an ever-present part of the scene as well.

It’s also likely that you know someone who has been challenged by a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Our friend Roman Figler — Jeremy and Justin’s father — is one of these people. To no one’s surprise given his infectious positive attitude, he’s approached it in an inspirational, vigorous manner. One of the most helpful things for Roman has been in Buffalo and Hamburg, New York.

Parkinson’s Boxing is a systematic boxing program designed to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (and other neurological disorders), especially those associated with balance and body movement. After all, a fighter needs the best balance possible.

Five years ago, Justin Figler used a fundraiser campaign to blow past his $5000 goal for the gym, as the community joined him in raising over $30,000 to support Parkinson’s Boxing.

This September 1, Justin is aiming to raise $15,000 for veterans who benefit from Parkinson’s Boxing’s mission with a new plan — carrying a 50-pound rucksack for 50 miles.

You can read all about it at Justin’s Go Fund Me page, and FCB is using the front of our practice shirt to honor Justin’s efforts and our good friend Roman, who is one of the best of us and is doing great things himself. Our practice shirt reads “Ruck For Roman” and the motto, “Take your life back today, one step at a time,” and has a QR code that links to Justin’s Go Fund Me page.

We hope you’ll join us in support Parkinson’s Boxing.
