The FC Buffalo Reserves may be 2-0 in Tehel Cup play, but they’ve yet to find a win now in three games of the BDSL Championship Division schedule. Sunday saw them lose to a previously-winless Wolfpack team, 4-2, at the Park School.
The Reserves (0-2-1) were without midfielder and leading scorer Stephen Acheampong and got off to a sloppy start. Wolfpack found four breakaways in the first half but goalkeeper Robert Weigand stopped three of them.
“He was outstanding,” said FCBR defender Paul Loweecey of his goalkeeper.
“Then, AJ Grecco played just as well in the second half, stopping multiple shots including many rebounds.”
The Reserves goals came from familiar names. Grover Cleveland/Erie Community College product Omar Sundi continued his magical ballwork to net the team’s first goal, while the second came late in the second half when Loweecey lofted a long ball that Marikos Habtemichael collected to put home. It was the third goal of the season for both Sundi and Habtemichael, tying them with the absent Acheampong for the team lead.
Coach Hector Vasquez added an extra practice this week. The team is off Memorial Day Weekend before traveling to Wendt Beach for a June 2 match versus Lakeshore Select (1-2-0).
