Reserves advance in Tehel Cup with 2-1 win

The FC Buffalo Revs, the BDSL Reserve team, won its first game of the prestigious Tehel Cup tournament with a 2-1 win away to SPAL FC on Thursday in West Seneca.

Stephen Acheampong (pictured, D’Youville College) and Daniel Griffin (Williamsville East) scored for the Revs, who advance to play the Queenston FC in the tournament’s third round on June 19.

“Stephen passed a through ballĀ and ran onto it himself because our other player was offside,” said head coach John Grabowski of the first goal. “Dan hit a rocket that the goalie got a piece of but deflected in.”

Grabowski praised the center back pairing of Eric Steinwachs (Mercyhurst College) and Chris Barbolini (Gannon University). Nick Smith (Mercyhurst College) and Samuel TorrelliĀ (Monroe Community College) split time between the sticks.

The Revs will go for their first BDSL Championship win of the season on Sunday at Sahlen Sports Park against Polonia at 6pm. The First Team plays at 5pm at Demske Sports Complex against the Erie Admirals.
