FC Buffalo nearly overcame one of its worst outings of the year, but couldn’t find the equalizer in a 2-1 loss at the Rochester Lancers on Saturday in Rochester.
The Lancers dominated the opening half, with goalkeeping heroics from Cameron Hogg (Auckland, New Zealand / University at Buffalo) keeping the hosts at bay aside from a shot that banged off the post and in. Hogg stopped a penalty kick from Antonio Manfut to keep it 1-0 at half.
Rochester went ahead 2-0 before FCB pulled one back through substitute Akean Shackleford (Savannah La Mar / Indian Hills Community College), as the injured Jamaican fought off a defender to score off an assist from Jake Cooper (Whitby, Ontario / Robert Morris University).
Hogg made a pair of tremendous saves late, but the Blitzers failed to find the equalizer despite promising chances for Shackleford, Bayley Winkel, and Jordan Sinclair.
FCB hits the road for a visit to first place Dayton on Sunday before returning home to face rivals Erie on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
