Erie sweeps the EC Derby

A strong road crowd was let down by some tough onfield moments as Erie answered FC Buffalo’s third-minute salvo with four goals to win 4-1 in Round Two of the 2011 EC Derby.

The Blitzers answered the traveling fans of The Situation Room with a blistering open, threatening early and often. The culmination of the efforts was a deft pass from Chris Walter to Matt Stedman that the Niagara University legend slotted home.

Erie scored twice in-a-row off controversial non-calls of offsides that let to breakaways for dangerous forward Afrim Latifi, who has been a Blitzer killer for all four EC Derby matches.

With FC Buffalo forced to take more chances, the Admirals earned a corner kick off a quick counterattack. Latifi turned provider and sent Erie into halftime up 3-1. They added another in the second half to keep their Keystone Conference title hopes alive.

FC Buffalo returns home July 16 & 17 for their final matches of the season. Admission is only five dollars.
