There are few things the Great Lakes region love move than sports and an ice cold beer, and the Erie County Brewers Cup will bring both to Buffalo and Erie this month.

Buffalo’s Big Ditch Brewing Company — in Erie County, New York — has teamed up with Erie’s John Russell Brewing Company — in Erie County, Pennsylvania — to put on the Erie County Brewers Cup, a home-and-away men’s soccer competition between Erie County derby rivals FC Buffalo and Erie Commodores on May 16 and 22.

The breweries are also collaborating on a new beer — Lake Erie Life Summer IPA — a tropical IPA featuring flavors of guava, citrus, and kiwi, that will be available beginning May 14th in Buffalo and the week of May 20th in Erie.

Buffalo will get to taste it for the first time from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, when FC Buffalo hosts a season kick-off meet-and-greet with its players and coaching staff at Big Ditch Brewing Company’s downtown Tap Room at 55 E. Huron Street. FC Buffalo will also receiver a portion of the bar’s proceeds and have a several raffle items including a signed Erling Haaland ball, signed Josh Allen jersey, and a World Cup ball signed by USMNT back Walker Zimmerman.

John Russell Brewing Company (7520 Peach Street, Erie, PA) will feature the collaboration beer and other Big Ditch craft beers including Lake Erie Life Summer IPA in Erie, PA, on tap at their brewery as well as sister pub and restaurant locations, plus at Saxon Stadium for the Brewers Cup game.

FC Buffalo and Erie Commodores forged a fierce and respectful rivalry for over a decade that sat quiet on the men’s side last season when the clubs found themselves in different leagues. It kicks on this spring when FC Buffalo hosts Erie Commodores at 7pm on Thursday, May 16 at Robert Rich Sr. All-High Stadium and then Erie returns the favor when FCB visits Saxon Stadium on the campus of Mercyhurst University at 7pm Wednesday, May 22. The winner on aggregate claims Erie County Brewers Cup bragging rights.

The Erie ‘friendly’ will be free to season ticket holders and single game tickets for the event go on sale later today. Season tickets remain available for purchase and include admission to all USL League Two and United Women’s Soccer regular season games. You can also pick up new shirts and other merchandise at fcbuffalostore.com.
