The United Soccer League announced Thursday an agreement with Buffalo Pro Soccer, a group led by former FCB player Peter Marlette, aimed at building a new soccer-suitable stadium in Buffalo and securing the proper ownership to drive a USL Championship team by 2026.

Our club has known Peter since he played for us following a sparkling career at Nichols and then Trinity College. We’ve since watched his journey through soccer with great admiration, and have enjoyed staying in touch with him throughout his terrific run as general manager of USL League 1 side Union Omahạ

Our conversations with Peter unsurprisingly revealed very similar goals for our sport in our city, and the USL’s continued communication, sincere respect, and strong support for FC Buffalo and our USL League Two, USL Youth, and USL Academy projects have been reassuring as well.

And, as we are every summer, we’re excited to show returning supporters and new fans the special experience that is supporting soccer in Western New York. We are days away from the announcements of our women’s schedule, our home stadium experience, and a new change kit for the 2024 seasons.

For nearly 15 years, FC Buffalo has worked collaboratively with Western New York’s soccer fans to build a community where the sport can thrive in Buffalo. Seeing the powerful growth of the USL Championship from our vantage point at the highest level of amateur soccer in USL League Two, we seek to work closely with Buffalo Pro Soccer to create pathways from the youth fields of Western New York to the grandest stages of global soccer.

This is an important and exciting step forward that builds on the foundation we’ve laid in growing Buffalo’s passion for the game. We understand there will be loads of questions, just as there were when we were approached by a previous group interested in building a championship venue in Buffalo. But you can rest assured our club is fiercely protective of this city, and that we know that a locally-led group like Peter’s Buffalo Pro Soccer will carry that same responsibility and passion.

As always, our club is for you. If you have any questions, we’re open. Email me at nick@fcbuffalo.org and I’ll respond as quickly as possible. We look forward to seeing everyone in the stands this summer!
