Stevens comes through in clutch to beat Red Devils

Anyone who’s watched Daniel Stevens man the midfield for FC Buffalo this year knows he’s been the straw that stirs the Blitzers proverbial drink, but on Friday night in North Maryland he stole the headlines with a stunning goal.

After the Blitzers (5-2-4) lost a 2-0 lead on a giveaway and a bizarre penalty kick, the TSC Maryland Red Devils (2-1-8) continued to attack in search of all three points. FC Buffalo stayed aggressive as well and the game headed into stoppage time before Stevens buried his fifth goal of the season, tying him with Richie Wilson for the Golden Boot Award heading into Sunday’s home finale.

FC Buffalo struck first in the twelfth minute when Mike Unwin found Andy Tiedt for the striker’s third goal of the season. Unwin buried the ball on a breakaway 20 minutes later to put Buffalo up. His fourth of the year puts the midfielder/forward one back of Wilson and Stevens for the award. Nick Fetterman picked up his second win of the season between the pipes.

The win ensures Buffalo will finish the year above .500, and finishes the Blitzers inaugural road season record at two wins, one draw and three losses.

The season finale, including the road jersey giveaway, will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Rich All-High Stadium. Come help us send this season off in style. Email: nick@fcbuffalo.org with any questions.
