Head coach: Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz

NewFC Buffalo skipper Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz ("Coach K") recently completed his ninth season as the head coach of the Medaille College men’s soccer program.  During his tenure at Medaille he has transformed them into a national power in NCAA DIII soccer.  The team achieved unprecedented success in 2010 by making the NCAA Sweet 16 and his team was the first team in Medaille College or AMCC Conference history to reach the third round of the NCAA tournament.  His squads have achieved tremendous success including winning FIVE consecutive undefeated AMCC Regular Season Championships from 2005 to 2009.  Medaille also won the AMCC Playoff Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010.  They have advanced to at least the second round three times in 2006, 2009, and 2010, and have twice been eliminated from the NCAA tournament by the National Champions in 2008 and 2010.

His teams have spent at least one week Nationally Ranked in the top 25 during the past five seasons, including finishing rankings in the Top 25 during the 2006 (No. 16), 2009 (No. 23) and 2010 (No. 16).  The 2010 season saw the team make an amazing run in the national tournament beating nationally-ranked and regional power University of Rochester.  Then in the second round they had to play the host school and No. 7 ranked Swarthmore College, winning  in penalty kicks before falling to eventual national champions Messiah College.

The 2009 season proved to be one of the best in Medaille history and saw numerous highlights.  On top of winning their fifth consecutive AMCC Title, they also beat Denison University in the 1st round of the National Tournament, and then they lost on a penalty kick in the 2nd round.  In addition, the Mavericks were regularly nationally ranked and finished #23 in the Nation.  They also finished with the No. 1 scoring offenses in the nation averaging 3.83 goals per game. This marked the 7th time in 8 seasons that Coach K’s Mavericks finished Top 25 in scoring offense.  Furthermore, 2009 was by far the best defensive season in school history. The Mavs only allowed an amazing six goals in 23 matches.  They finished #1 nationally in fewest goals allowed (6 in 23 matches), in shutouts (17), and in save percentage (.912).  Also, senior Gary Boughton broke the NCAA career assist record with 82 assists in his illustrious tenure at Medaille.  He smashed the old record of 62 set almost two decades ago.   At the conclusion of the 2009 season, senior All-American Kendell McFayden signed a professional contract with the USL 1 Austin Aztex.  McFayden was one of 21 former and current Mavericks that have played in the MISL, USL 1, USL, PDL, or NPSL during Coach K’s tenure.

Coach Krzyzanowicz was named the 2009, 2005, and 2002 Conference Coach of the Year and was honored in 2009 by the Am Pol Eagle as their Citizen of the Year in the sports category.  In Coach K’s nine seasons at Medaille his teams have played in the conference championship match a remarkable eight times.  Because of these successes, Medaille soccer players and the team appear over twenty times in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Record Book.

In 2001 Coach K was named head coach of the Ripley (NY) High School boys varsity soccer team. Under his tutelage, the team qualified for the Section VI finals and broke five school records. He also held the varsity track head coaching position at Frankfort (New York) High School in 1999 — the first year of the school’s track program — and mentored several section finalists while the team finished second in the conference. Coach K is a very active member of the local community, working with youth clubs for 20 years as a coach for the NCSA soccer organization in Chautauqua County, Clarence Soccer Club and he is currently the Director of Coaching at the Orchard Park Soccer Club.

Coach K has worked some of the most prestigious soccer camps in the country including Akron University, Penn State University, and Indiana University. During those camps Coach K increased his knowledge while working with some of the top Division I coaches in the country and current Major League Soccer (MLS) players. Coach K holds a NSCAA Premier, Advanced National, and National Diplomas and received a Masters degree from Medaille College in 2003, a Bachelor’s degree from Defiance College in 2001 and an Associate’s degree from Herkimer County Community College in 1998. He was a two-year starter on the Defiance College soccer team and participated in both indoor and outdoor track and field.
