The latest FC Buffalo alum to take the next step into professional soccer is Jamaican forward Asani Samuels, who has agreed to terms with the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League.

“I have learned a lot from playing for FC Buffalo and it was an honor to play for the city,” Samuels said.

The lanky Canisius College product scored 1 goal and added 2 assists in 10 games for FCB in 2013. Samuels was a sought-after product after college, including a tryout this winter with the Philadelphia Union of MLS, before eventually signing with our friends down the road in Rochester.

“Asani is not only a gifted player but a fine young man and we’re grateful Coach Murphy brought him to FCB as another step in his development,” said Blitzers co-owner Nick Mendola. “We’re happy to hear that he’s found a quality home with the Rhinos and are anxious to see him perform at the next level.”

Here’s what Rhinos coach Bob Lilley said:

“Asani has good size and speed. He has the ability to either play up top or our wide and can be a real handful for defenders. He will challenge defenders with his size as he is good in the air,” Lilley said.

You can watch the Rhinos’ 2015 USL debut at New York Red Bulls II on Saturday night via the below YouTube embed.
