Rust Belt Trophy Up For Grabs at Home Finale

Sunday’s home finale is more than just your last chance to see FC Buffalo at home this NPSL season, as a win would earn the club its first Rust Belt Derby title.

This Rust Belt Derby was created and sponsored by three supporter groups for NPSL clubs FC Buffalo, Detroit City FC and AFC Cleveland: The Situation Room (Buffalo) The 6th City Syndicate (Cleveland) and The Northern Guard (Detroit).

AFC Cleveland and Detroit City FC drew 1-1 on Friday in Ohio, meaning an FC Buffalo win over Le Rouge on Sunday would give them the Rust Belt Trophy (below right), while a Detroit City win or draw at Buffalo will give the visitors the prize.

The Rust Belt Derby trophy

FC Buffalo finished third in the inaugural Rust Belt Derby with just two points when Cleveland edged out Detroit, 8-5, in 2012. The standings now (below) see Detroit with 7 points, FCB with 6 and Cleveland with a lone point in 2013.

Sunday’s kickoff between Detroit and FC Buffalo is at 1 p.m. The home finale is also “Family Day,” and will feature several family businesses, vendors and exhibits for the kids including the Buffalo Museum of Science and Explore and More Children’s Museum.
