Players vote in 2012 annual awards; Supporters’ Choice Awards Open

While you’re warming up for Saturday’s beach soccer tournament at Sunset Bay (you can still register!), why not let your voice be heard on who deserves plaudits for their strong play during a tough season?

For the third-consecutive year, players have voted for who of their teammates deserves season-ending honors. Here’s who the boys picked:

Best Offensive Player: Mike Reidy

2011 winner: MikReidy
2010 winner: Rich Wilson

The explosive Reidy was much more than his oft-watched dazzling run (VIDEO) through Binghamton midway through the 2012 season. The first-ever player to claim awards in consecutive years, Reidy now sits in the Top Three all-time in goals (2nd), assists (3rd) and points (2nd).

***

Best Defensive Player: Josh Hall
2011 winner: Corey Phillips
2010 winner: Mbwana Johnson

Hall elicited praise from opposing coaches in his first appearance as a Blitzer in Sahlen’s Stadium against the Rochester Rhinos and it wouldn’t be the last time the enemy appreciated his valor.

***

Unsung Hero: Patrick Zelko

2011 winner: Joshua Faga and Andrew Larracuente (tie)
2010 winner: John Grabowski

The diminutive hybrid back/winger produced a combination of strong tackling and elusive runs in each of his appearances and gave head coach Dan Krzyzanowicz an incredible asset whether starting or coming off the bench.

***

Most Valuable Player: Mike Reidy and Andrew Tiedt (tie)
2011 winner: Joshua Faga
2010 winner: Daniel Stevens

It’s fitting that the award should be shared by a flashy player and one of the unquestioned heartbeats of the team. Reidy made plays and Tiedt was an animal in the air. Both players have firmly made their statements as critical players in the formative history of FCB.
