FC Buffalo scored the biggest comeback victory in its 8-year existence on Sunday when three second-half goals led the Blitzers to a 3-2 win over Fort Pitt Regiment at Highmark Stadium.

The Regiment came out with a fury on a day with a 100-plus degree temperature at field level, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

But Akean Shackleford (Savannah La Mar, Jamaica / Indian Hills CC) netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a Fox Slotemaker (Nelson, New Zealand / Old Dominion University) knock down to make it 2-1 with a 49th minute goal.

The second goal didn’t come for nearly a half-hour, when Bayley Winkel (Whitby, Ontario / Robert Morris University) belted a cross that turned off a Fort Pitt player and into the goal to make it 2-2.

Three minutes later, it was Slotemaker’s second assist that set Braden Scales (Lockport, New York / University at Buffalo) up for a headed finish. The Blitzers and goalkeeper Jeremy Figler then locked down the goal for all three points.

Join us Wednesday, July 12 at Soho Burger Bar on West Chippewa in Downtown Buffalo, when we’ll announce our team award winners at halftime of the U.S. – Martinique group stage match of the Gold Cup. That match kicks off at 9 p.m.

FCB then plays its home finale on Friday, July 14 against AFC Cleveland. Get your tickets here.
