Soccer’s a brotherhood, but actual siblings will suit up for FC Buffalo in 2012, according to FCB head coach Dan Krzyzanowicz.
Binghamton Bearcats midfielder and captain Ryan Walter is one of 16 players who will spend his summer alongside his brother Chris Walter at FC Buffalo. Walter scored four goals for Binghamton in his senior season.
Two other signings spent significant time with the Blitzers in forward Cory Cwiklinski and fan favorite defender Mbwana Johnson. Cwiklinski netted in the Lord Bedlington Cup while Johnson has appeared in nearly every game of the club’s existence.
A number of players with Canisius College connections found their way into Krzyzanowicz’s mix, including former Griffs players JJ Hughes, Samuel Guilbert and Matt Waddington. Hughes is a solid possession midfielder while Guilbert, FC Buffalo’s first Frenchman, has all the craftiness you could want in an attacking midfielder. Waddington has a longtime connection with several FCB vets and possesses a cannon for a leg. They’ll be joined by two players still playing for Canisius coach Dermot McGrane in Ryan Schroen and Derek Maier.
St. Bonaventure and Erie Community College will be represented in blue-and-gold for the first time as Steven Carcaterro and Pablo Ordonez are in the fold. Carcaterro plays midfield and defense, while the agile Ordonez registered an eye-popping 19 goals and 11 assists in 12 games for the Kats as coach Bernie Feldmann’s team ventured into the playoffs.
Several newcomers have been playing with their FCB teammates in an 11v11 league since October, including University at Buffalo graduate Marco Stencel and Medaille product Josh Hall. Each bring grit and speed to outside positions and possess great versatility.
Krzyzanowicz has added two goalkeepers to compete with incumbent Jordan Dilapo in 6’5″ Appalachian product Brian Wagstaff and 6’4″ Houghton keeper Eric DeHond. TC3 midfielder Josh Piger and Akron HS product Peter Duerden round out the new signings, adding skill and size.
