College update: Cicerone, Thomas, Coach all shine

It’s nearly November, and as good a time as ever to check in on the fortunes of our players and staff during the FCB offseason.

It’s been a decent season for our boys at school, and that includes our head coach, as Brendan Murphy has led the D’Youville College men to their first ever AMCC playoff appearance in just his second year on the job.

Over at UB, Russell Cicerone and Marcus Hanson have both been named as part of TopDrawerSoccer’s Top 20 players from the Mid American Conference. Russell is coming off a week in which he scored four goals and added two assists, boosting his total to 10 goals and 3 assists in his sophomore season. Check his goal from Marcus, who has two goals and four assists this year, here:

Additionally, their fellow UB captain Waleed Cassis has a 1.56 goals against average between the sticks and has helped the Bulls to a 1-0-2 record in conference play. Kristian Lee-Him has a goal and an assist for Buffalo, too, which is on track to make the MAC tournament.

Down at Alfred, senior Jeff Thomas is having another brilliant year for the Saxons. Jeff has 7 goals and 3 assists on 40 shots, as Alfred is 9-6-2 on the year.

The only Canisius player to suit up for us last summer, Chris Berardi, has two goals and two assists in the Griffs’ strong season, while plenty of FCB alums are playing big roles. Asani Samuels has 7 goals and 2 assists. Derek Maier has three goals and Ryan Schroen has two assists while starting all 16 games. Goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin has a .896 save percentage to go with his 8-6-2 record.

At Niagara, goalkeeper Steve Casey has started 10 games as a true freshman, posting his first collegiate clean sheet. Kyle Moraldo has also played in 10 games for the Purple Eagles.

Liam Callahan has started 12 of the 13 games he’s played since transferring to Syracuse University, a back line mainstay for the 13-2-1 Orange. Chris Walter has an assist and 16 shots in 13 games for Hartwick during his senior campaign, while Albany’s Anthony Rozzano has a goal and a helper for the Great Danes.

In California, Point Loma sophomores Nico Tagaloa and Tyler Allen are leading the charge for the Sea Lions. Nico has 3 goals and 1 assist, while Tyler has 1 goal and an assist as both have played and started all 14 games.

Captaining the St. Lawrence Saints is Daniel Hunt (above), who has three goals and two assists from the back, including this overtime winner just a few days ago:

Steve Carcaterro and Mitchell Skrabacz are getting plenty of playing time at St. Bonaventure, while

Nick Smith has played 5 times for highly-ranked Mercyhurst, posting a 4-1 record in goal. Martin Fiemawhle has played in 9 games for Duquesne, who is 7-5-2.
